HEATING PLATES FOR CHICK BROODERS

This heating plate is a safe alternative to the usual heating lamp. Presenting less of a fire risk, these heating plates also simulate a hen keeping chicks warm beneath her feathers.

Heating plate advantages over a heat lamp:

• Uses much less electricity. Only 15 watts (66 for the larger plate) vs 175 or 250 watts for a heat lamp.
• Less risk of fire because of the much lower surface temperature (only 125°).
• Field observation: Birds raised under plates appear calmer than those raised under lamps.

Choose from four sizes, all made from ABS plastic, with yellow legs that adjust from 1.5 inches to 6 inches tall.

• Keeps up to 20 chicks warm

• Keeps up to 30 chicks warm
• 42 watts/hour
• Plate and cover: 16 inches by 16 inches
• Cover height: 7 inches

Large

• Keeps up to 50 chicks warm
• 66 watts/hour
• Plate and cover: 16 inches by 24 inches
• Cover height: 7 inches

How to use: Use the yellow legs to set the height low enough, so it almost touches chicks' backs. Height adjustment is important. As the chicks grow, use the adjustable legs to increase the height of the plate above the bedding and chicks. Worried that the plate feels hot to the touch? It isn't. If chicks get too warm, they can move out from under it for a time. Don't overcrowd—chicks need space to move around as they like.

When the heating plate is plugged directly into the outlet, the red light comes on and stays on.

When plugged into the Heating Plate Temperature Controller, it will blink based on the min/max adjustment. Slow blink toward minimum and quicker toward max. If you turn it up, it will come on full-time.

If hand-washing to remove dust and debris, do not submerge in water.
