Atriplex hortensis

Days to Maturity: 45

We love the bright purple & magenta colors of Purple Orach, a leafy, cold-hardy green related to lambsquarters. Similar to spinach, leaves are wonderful sauteed, cooked in soups, or eaten raw on salads. The flavor is earthy, mineral-rich and mild and the texture is soft and velvety. Very easy to grow and save seeds. Try them as microgreens for a new, bright purple twist! These seeds are Colorado & Southwest adapted.

Planting Instructions: Sow Purple orach seeds as soon as soil can be worked in early spring, and plant again in late summer/early fall. Plant 1/3" deep and 3" apart.

Seed Saving Instructions: Plants may re-seed themselves year after year, so plant Purple Orach seeds in a location where you'd enjoy them to naturalize. You may also allow plants to bolt and go to seed, and collect seeds when dry and crumbly. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
