California poppy is a North American native plant famous for helping normalize psychological equilibrium. The distinct cup-shaped flower has golden orange petals delicately held by fringed and feathery greyish green leaves. California Poppy can be found growing wild across the western states into Canada and on the east coast. California is known as the "Golden State" in part because of the massive blooms of these delicate wildflowers every year. The state made California poppy it's official flower.
Once upon a time California Poppy has been worked with by the local Native American Nations as a sedative for children. They also crushed the entire plant into a compress as a topical vulnerary and used the root for various aches and pains. Today we work with this beauty and recognize it as a gentle sedative, antispasmodic, analgesic and find it a very effective herbal ally for helping dispel nervous tension and anxiety. The aerial parts and roots of this wildflower show tremendous promise in the treatment of insomnia as well. And while higher doses of California poppy are sedating, lower doses reduce anxiety and lower stress without changing ones overall affect.
