Mint, Mountain (Pycnanthemum virginianum)
Mountain Mint is one of the best plants to grow to attract pollinators to the garden, including various bees, flies, butterflies, wasps and beetles. The leaves are very aromatic and when they are bruised they give off a pleasant strong mint aroma. Very fragrant indeed.
The flowers range from white to shades of light purple. The leaves are lovely as well and have a light green color that looks stunning among other plants and flowers. The species name, Pycnanthemum, means "densely flowered" which lends to being able to feed many pollinators. Mountain Mint blooms over a long period of time, at least a month in mid to late summer, depending on where you live.
